Cloud Storage with Dropbox

March 28, 2018 in article

What do you want to know about the best and only cloud storage I've ever trusted?

I can tell you right now that every image I have ever delivered to a client or friend has gone out via my one true online saviour, Dropbox.

Why is that you ask? Well, there is something to be said about a 24/7 service, and if you can trust someone or something enough for long enough, you don't have to think about it.

For a long time, years ago now, I use their free services because my images simply weren't big enough to need to pay, which was great because I was just starting, it is a great plus for anyone starting out or just wanting to get some free storage for their own.

Now I'm only on the entry-level plan and do not need to upgrade unless I need extra space. For a healthy $10 a month I get a terabyte of data. You might be thinking, that seems like a lot. And it might be, but I know that when I pay my account each month or yearly depending on how I'm feeling, I know It's going towards keeping a great service alive.

You have probably heard their name before, but I think it's imperative to hear it from a personal experience that can be trusted. You can trust me, right?

A glimpse in how I manage my folders in Dropbox.

A glimpse in how I manage my folders in Dropbox.

I use the service to backup up a lot of different types of data, some that are rather complex like system backups, even my RAW image files. But what I love is the shared environment where I can control who can and can't see different items. I can set passwords and share short links in an instant.

I use Dropbox with a really handy application called Commander One Pro, which allows me to control this usually web-based service in a windows explorer/mac os finder viewing format. You can learn more about this here.

Seeing as holding large amounts of data is all about the statistic, I thought I’d finish up with you a bit more inside details about what types of statistical data Dropbox is playing with here. I think you might be rather impressed.

Dropbox just went past its 500 millionth users who have uploaded 400 billion separate files. Today the amount of files uploaded is somewhere close to 1.2 billion files and increases every day!

Amount of users by year since 2008

The number of shared folders and files that have been created on Dropbox is 3 billion with 100,000 shared folders and links created every hour. Dropbox has recorded that there are 4,000 file edits per second. Of which Microsoft Office files are stored the most at 35 billion.

There are currently 200,000 paying customers and 1 million business customers that speak 20 different support languages. See, wasn’t that fun!

I can offer my affiliate code to Dropbox which enables both you and me to benefit from extra storage free every time someone uses your link. Once you're signed in, you too are also eligible for this same offer when you invite your friends and family to the service, furthermore, growing your account which can be beneficial down the track as you might not even need extra paid storage because you convince all your friends to jump on board. You can thank me later.

Now it’s your turn to choose the best cloud storage service today!
