Drone photography is one of my favourite platforms to capture compelling imagery. Outside of successfully achieving a RePL a few years back, one career highlight occurred earlier this year when I was asked to capture the NGV Garden. I couldn't believe I had permission to operate from the closed garden all to myself. This environment is one of my favourite places to be in Melbourne and having the clearance to conduct drone photography from this site was nothing short of astonishment.
When I operate the drone, I go into my own world on a photographic level, I know the brief, and I know the capabilities of the camera equipment and aircraft inside out. One thing I am well trained in is operating safely. It's important to consider all potential complications, whether they be location or condition based.
With large-scale drone shoots, I ensure all aspects of the shoot run smoothly by creating preflight schedule of operation to get the most desired outcome. Many tools and techniques are used to plan ahead so capture can be executed with the least resistance.
