Busky Park

Bushy Park, Victoria, Australia

The day begins slow, I get dressed, make my way to the kitchen and boil the kettle. I lift my head up while I wait for it to boil when I peer out the window to find I could barely see 10 meters out the window. I had originally planned to take a slow start to the day, do some reading, listen to a podcast and check my email. This quickly came to a halt and I threw on my shoes, grabbed my camera and ran out the door to immerse myself in these fleeting conditions.

I jumped in the car, rolled the key and swiftly jetted off on way to nowhere. Usually, I have a spot In mind that I want to check out or a tip on a good place to visit, but when the elements are putting on a show, that place is spontaneous, it could be anywhere, it’s up to me.

After some quick thinking, praying the fog wouldn’t burn off before I arrived anywhere, I decided to go to one of my favourite local spots where I knew I’d be bound to find some interesting nooks and crannies.

Fog to me paints a mood that is otherwise invisible to the eye. You can feel like a foggy day even during the height of summer, but it’s only on those actual foggy days that you can see that feeling in the flesh. At least that’s the best way I can describe the atmosphere which had fallen around me.

Bushy Park is an important place for me. Being a suburban kid obsessed with unknown spaces, a natural environment like this with touches of man’s intervention so close to home means I can make a quick escape, and still be home for dinner.

In more recent time, I have sources telling me that this land is now zoned for residential development. It’s a bit saddening but nothing as good as this can last forever. I’ll do a little more research to confirm this, so for the time being, this story is to be continued.
